A New Investment Approach

A New Investment Approach

Introducing Two WAYS TO INVEST IN UNDER-REPRESENTED FOUNDERS

Big problems require innovative solutions, and we believe the fact that <3% of venture capital funds flow to women-led companies constitutes a big problem. Rather than raise a traditional investment fund, Daintree has worked with innovators in the field to develop a unique investment instrument that is purpose-built to tackle this systemic injustice.  The are two ways to support Daintree’s efforts to invest in under-represented founders.

An Impact Investment

In partnership with Inspire Access, Daintree has launched an Impact Note. This three year note provides investors with an opportunity to earn interest income from loans made to businesses run by under-represented founders. Interest is returned on an annual basis to the investor’s donor-advised fund (DAF) or to a 501(c)(3) of the investor’s choosing. At the end of the three-year term, investors have the option to reclaim the principle or continue to invest it in these loans.

A One-Time Donation

In partnership with Legacy Global Foundation, Daintree operates the Evergreen Fund. This fund supports working capital loans to under-represented founders in perpetuity. As principal and interest from these loans are repaid, the fund grows and is able to make additional loans to under-represented founders. This compounding effect means that donations not only fund immediate investments into often overlooked companies, but the donation multiplies over time and is able to fund new loans each year. In fact, a single $50K donation will—across five years—fund more than $260K of investment into business run by under-represented founders.

This fund also supports capacity-building efforts in programs that increase access to investment capital for under-represented founders. This innovative approach, enables donors to tap into their tax-advantaged charitable dollars to fund investments in for-profit companies run by under-represented founders.
